The Great British Sewing Bee Live.

Monday, 25 September 2017

I thought I’d give a quick snapshot review of our day at The Great British Sewing Bee Live which was held at the Excel centre last week. When the event was first advertised, I was a little unsure on how well it would do, coming the weekend after The Handmade Fair and only a couple of weeks ahead of The Knitting & Stitching Show. Would it be successful sandwiched in between two well established events?

Plans for Sewing The Scene Challenge - 1950s Swing Jacket

Tuesday, 19 September 2017
I like to watch DVDs while I sew, usually programmes that I’ve seen before which don’t require too much concentration to keep up with the plot. I tend to watch lots of 1940s/50s dramas (Call The Midwife, The Bletchley Circle, Murder On The Homefront, Partners In Crime etc). So when Jo at The Unfinished Seamstress  posted about the ‘Sew The Scene’ challenge I knew it was one for me!

Allied Inspired Buchanan Dressing Gown

Monday, 4 September 2017

Have you seen the film Allied? If you’re a fan of 1940s fashion then you really ought to check it out. Set in 1942, it stars Marion Cotillard and Brad Pitt as a Resistance fighter and Intelligence officer and is full of intrigue and tension. The plot really has you guessing until the end but it’s the clothes, worn by Marion, which stole the show for me. The costume designer, Joanna Johnston, modelled the designs on original vintage pieces.
